People are broken – every single one of us. Throughout my life as a weird, ugly, lonely, creative, super-loved, exceedingly sensitive person I have wondered how the hell to make the brokenness hurt less, how to connect more with the world and how to make sense of suffering. It occurred to me that there was something of use in it all but I didn’t know what until a few years ago. It started with just writing down stories about my family – grandparents, parents, in-laws, my children. Then a little blogging here and there, then a book which is nearly complete – but in the process of the book it dawned on me that I was a singer and what if I combined the stories with songs that I loved? Could I do that? Well it turns out that I’m an adult and I can do whatever I want – who knew. So I did it – and guess what – people actually  came AND they liked it! The only way I know how to make sense of the brokenness is to share it with others so that we can all feel less alone.

“Erin Mahone accomplishes something of huge importance in her one-woman show…She puts mental illness front and center, thereby beginning to dissolve its stigma. The fact that she does so with humor and grace simply makes her achievement that much more impressive. I cannot think of anyone who would walk away unchanged.”
